fabulous fifty

This is what I have been working on...a wall hanging to celebrate my 50th birthday. The background is overdyed sari silk that I have woven and then stitched.  The pictures are ones that I converted from slides and I have printed them on silk.  The knitting was done with silk yarn.  I loved doing the extra stitching over the top, and the small amount of stamping I included.  This took 20 weeks to make, from start to finish.

fabric paper

Yesterday I had a session with some students who had nothing of their own to work on...so we set about to make fabric paper.  The results are great.  I'm going to do some more embellishing on the fabric paper and then make it into one or two project samples.  Next term, the students will make more and then create a project from it.  We are all excited with the prospect...

I'm back!

I haven't been here for ages...no excuses really...forgot my password and didn't have time way back to reset it.  All fixed now.

I've been working hard on projects...for work and for me... as you can see by the pics I'm trying to work outside of my comfort zone too.  Have also made a lap quilt for mum and have another ready to quilt....working on a hand stitched project too.

2 more projects

As the time has been passing by I haven't been sitting idle.....at last my pin cushion is complete.  I got the pattern for it when I was on long service leave this time last year.  I think it took 4 months to get the stand and then it was put away.  I just love how it's turned out.

The other pic is a sample of a work project...I thought it was about time I started to use some selvedge edges for a project.

finished projects

At last I have finished the poppy quilt.  I am really pleased with the results...especially the disperse dying and beading.

I have finally been able to pick up my sampler from a local framer...it had been there since the beginning of Feb!  Results are great though.

a quiet month

Ohh, its nearly a month since I last posted...I haven't been doing very much stitching as I've been focusing on a rose altered book.  Trying new techniques and products has been fun and at times daunting.  It is nearly finished now.

Last night I did finish stitching my poppy quilt.  Now I have some painting and beading to do before binding off.  I should be done with it by the holidays and then I can reveal.

nearly done

I have nearly finished the stitchery for the baby...was put on hold last night when I didnt have any iron pellon in the cupboard. Bought some this afternoon so should finish in the next couple of day.

I am ready to begin another altered book - this time a reminiscence of a Christmas I spent in Germany...I will keep you posted.

got it!

Thanks to Kerry I have decided on cardboard letters for the front of the altered book - I have spent tonight painting the letters so tomorrow I should be able to stick them on.

I'm already for my next stitching project.  I will trace it tomorrow night too.  This time it's a baby stitchery for a friend...will enjoy doing it.

holidays over

This is what I have finished over the holidays - a Christmas stitchery by Red Brolly and another by Bareroots.

The other project was my altered book on 'My tale of Peter Rabbit'...the only thing I need to do is the front cover!  What do I do and how do I do it?  I can't decide...help!

Back to work tomorrow so output will slow down....but I still plan to get things done and have some time for me doing what I enjoy most>

poppies

At last I have started to quilt 'poppies' which was finished late last year...It combines disperse dyeing, raw edge applique and stitching - still to come is some painting, beading and heaps of quilting!

finishing off

Today I have put the final borders onto two embroideries I have been working on...ready to finish at the weekend.

I found the photos I printed a couple of weeks ago so I can now get cracking on the Peter Rabbit altered book...it's going to be fun.

Tonight, whilst watching the telly, I have resorted all of my dmc stranded cottons...sounds boring I know but it was fun.  They look so good in their boxes in color and number order.

today's activities

I have finished the embroidery that I mentioned yesterday and just started another one.

I have also been fiddling with a scrapbooking project today - a book made from a manila folder that was in the latest edition of one of my favorite magazines 'Cloth. paper, scissors".  This is the first time I have made a project from the magazine.  My theme is 'Christmas Past'.  It's not finished yet as I need to do lots of journalling, but have to wait until tomorrow to buy a pen and some alphabet rub ons...Today I've finished off ends, sprayed some color and distressed the edges.

planning day

I have spent today organising 4 projects - the 2 Christmas stitcheries and 2 scrapbooking projects.  I needed to use the sewing machine to get one of them up to a stage where I can continue work where ever I am.

I have now nearly finished a stitching project - about an hour to go and it will be reading to get framed next week.  Yipee!

A Beginning

This blog is so I can record a year of crafting...hopefully it might keep me more focused and ensure time is used productively.

Today I have been trying to plan some new projects. I've decided to begin a Christmas stitchery (yes, I know its an early start!) and an altered book on a favorite topic - Peter Rabbit.  Let's see how I go!
